It’s a truth universally acknowledged that most women have to have a pristine kitchen before going to bed and nothing around the house lingering. It’s a truth individually acknowledged that I’m so exhausted from having to do chores 24/7 that I will not spend my nighttime down time doing even more of them or pretend that I can live on autodrive a bit more than I already do. At night when all is said and done, you will find me on my laptop writing a rant essay, an application to a side job , a program, or my own novels and stories -at night or sometimes during my meals that’s when I spend time on me. And reality is that if we don’t carve out and intentionally carve out time for us, for things independent from chores, those things will never magically occur. Waiting doesn’t make them happen nor does sacrificing oneself beyond the love and time we’ve already Given make us better than others. That being said, our homes are sacred and taking time to clean them is a beautiful thing (for all genders ) but is there a limit ? Is there a break ? Because it seems to me that we’re expected to never break from it to never pause unless we’re sleeping. Many will fall off their seats and confirm with themselves how much of a non housewife Epi is for not sprucing up the kitchen before bed. Ancestors will roll in their graves and scarecrows will fall off their poles. Truth is Epi has already broken her back all day and has zero time or is pressured to keep cleaning to look good to others, because it’s not enough to do it just for you. Because beyond cleaning is the facade and I can’t put no facade up. I am here in all of my imperfections , cleaning up
Pieces of my home and of myself and I promise you
Tomorrow
My kitchen will have to be cleaned again.
And if I ever die ( nta corna stu picchiu) I hope you come into my home and discover some untidy drawers. I also hope you take time to uncover some art work in the making. .. and the miracle of the children I made.
